Job Description:
  • This position coordinates the nursing activities between multiple service areas of the ambulatory surgery center (ASC).
  • Provides care and/or service to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Duties include:
  • Coordinates the daily operations between phases of care in the ASC.
  • Evaluates, identifies, and makes changes in daily nursing activities, which include adjusting staffing between phases of care, use of resources and materials, priority setting, and patient services to enhance the services provided within the ASC.
  • Identifies and implements appropriate staffing and training needs to meet ASC needs. Coordinates with management to develop and implement orientation of new employees, and ongoing training and competency.
  • Implements, interprets, and ensures ASC philosophy, policies, procedures, and established standards of care and practice; Assists in the development of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Researches, develops, and implements projects as assigned.
  • Participates in the ASC Quality Improvement activities.
  • Serves as a communication liaison between patients, families, staff, and physicians, and reports critical consequences of actions taken to Administrator - ASC.
  • Assists in supervising nursing staff, including hiring recommendations, assignments, training, counseling, and evaluating.
  • Establishes daily work schedules and assignments for assigned shift to ensure appropriate staffing for scheduled surgical procedures; Evaluates and adjusts staffing assignments as needed during shift.
  • Assists in the development and control of annual operational and capital budgets.
  • Complies with ASC license, certification, in-service, and training requirements, and committee and conference participation as appropriate for position.
  • Maintains familiarity with patient care issues relating to surgical procedures and technical training in the use of equipment pertinent to area.
  • May perform the duties and responsibilities of the RN Intraoperative - ASC or RN Perioperative - ASC.
  • Assists with staff meetings, and provides feedback to Administrator - ASC.
  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with ASC policies and procedures; Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/visitor/patient injury or accident to Director.
  • Works closely with scheduling on a daily basis to evaluate, identify and make scheduling changes to enhance services.
  • Closely monitors the surgery schedule for the assigned shift and identifies and implements changes that will facilitate the timely accommodation of surgical cases; Serves as the communication liaison for physicians, patients, families, staff, and other departments to facilitate these changes.
  • Directly supervises the nursing and ancillary staff for the assigned shift.
  • Assumes responsibility for the counseling and disciplinary actions for the assigned staff.
  • Serves as a resource to staff for troubleshooting and resolving issues that occur intra-operatively.
  • Collaborates with the Quality, Sterile Processing, and Purchasing to ensure appropriate supplies and instrumentation are available to meet departmental needs.
  • Prepares the monthly staffing schedules; Assumes final approval of the schedule prior to its being posted.
  • Assumes first line responsibility for the interviewing and hiring of staff.
  • Four+ (4) years of experience in nursing
  • Minimum of two (2) years in area of specialty and leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, coordinates diversified and multiple activities and make appropriate clinical and managerial decisions
  • Must possess advanced problem-solving skills
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • Active GA RN License
Certifications Required:
  • CPR
  • Successful completion of management courses, Preferred
  • BSN, Preferred
  • Circulating OR RN with ASC Experience in ENT, General Surgery and Plastics, Preferred
